The story of Ambedkar Jayanti
Born into a Mahar family treated as untouchable, Ambedkar overcame severe discrimination to earn doctorates from Columbia and the London School of Economics and to qualify at the bar. He led satyagrahas for temple entry and access to water, edited newspapers, founded political parties and educational institutions, drafted the Constitution's guarantees of equality and against untouchability, and in 1956 converted to Buddhism with lakhs of followers. He died weeks later, on 6 December 1956.
