Nirnaya Sindhu quotes Vyasa: “trimuhūrtaḥ pradoṣaḥ syād bhānāv astaṃ gate sati”, that is, Pradosh is the three muhurtas after the sun has set. Three of the night's fifteen muhurtas are its first fifth, worked out from this city's own sunset.
Why Pradosh begins at 5:24 PM in Ghaziabad
Sunset, and with it Pradosh, comes 1 minute earlier in Ghaziabad than in New Delhi (5:25 PM). Ghaziabad lies 0.2° east of New Delhi. The Earth turns through that in about 1 minute, so on longitude alone the sun sets 1 minute earlier here. Almost all of the difference is longitude.
