Parana: how to break the fast

What is Pausha Putrada Ekadashi?
It is the grain-free Ekadashi fast (the fasting and parana rules are on the Ekadashi page), with the sankalpa taken for a virtuous child and the merit dedicated to that prayer.
As Vaikuntha Ekadashi in the South it is the greatest Vishnu day of the year, when the Vaikuntha Dwaram (Paramapada Vasal) is opened at Srirangam, Tirupati and other temples for the devotees to pass through.
The story of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi
The Bhavishyottara Purana tells of King Suketuman of Bhadravati and Queen Shaivya, long childless and despairing. Wandering by a forest lake they came upon an ashram of sages who told them to keep the Pausha Shukla Ekadashi with a full Vishnu vrat; they did, and in time a son was born to them who grew to be a righteous king.

See the Ekadashi page for the day-rule and the Smarta / Vaishnava difference; the Gregorian date drifts about 11 days earlier each year.
