The story of Teachers' Day

Radhakrishnan was a leading interpreter of Indian philosophy to the world, holding chairs at Mysore, Calcutta and Oxford, and serving as India's first Vice-President and then President (1962–67). When students asked to celebrate his birthday, he replied that he would be prouder if the day were kept as Teachers' Day. It has been observed as such since 1962.
