Not in Guruvayur?
2 h 29 min, starting at sunset.
Nirnaya Sindhu quotes Vyasa: “trimuhūrtaḥ pradoṣaḥ syād bhānāv astaṃ gate sati”, that is, Pradosh is the three muhurtas after the sun has set. Three of the night's fifteen muhurtas are its first fifth, worked out from this city's own sunset.
Why Pradosh begins at 6:00 PM in Guruvayur
Sunset, and with it Pradosh, comes 35 minutes later in Guruvayur than in New Delhi (5:25 PM). Guruvayur lies 1.2° west of New Delhi. The Earth turns through that in about 5 minutes, so on longitude alone the sun sets 5 minutes later here. Guruvayur's latitude adds another 30 minutes: it changes the length of the day and of the night.
