Nirnaya Sindhu quotes Vyasa: “trimuhūrtaḥ pradoṣaḥ syād bhānāv astaṃ gate sati”, that is, Pradosh is the three muhurtas after the sun has set. Three of the night's fifteen muhurtas are its first fifth, worked out from this city's own sunset.
Why Pradosh begins at 4:25 PM in Imphal
Sunset, and with it Pradosh, comes 60 minutes earlier in Imphal than in New Delhi (5:25 PM). Imphal lies 16.7° east of New Delhi. The Earth turns through that in about 67 minutes, so on longitude alone the sun sets 67 minutes earlier here.
