2 h 29 min, starting at sunset.
Nirnaya Sindhu quotes Vyasa: “trimuhūrtaḥ pradoṣaḥ syād bhānāv astaṃ gate sati”, that is, Pradosh is the three muhurtas after the sun has set. Three of the night's fifteen muhurtas are its first fifth, worked out from this city's own sunset.
Why Pradosh begins at 5:49 PM in Tiruchirappalli
Sunset, and with it Pradosh, comes 24 minutes later in Tiruchirappalli than in New Delhi (5:25 PM). Tiruchirappalli lies 1.5° east of New Delhi. The Earth turns through that in about 6 minutes, so on longitude alone the sun sets 6 minutes earlier here. Tiruchirappalli's latitude takes back 30 minutes of that: it changes the length of the day and of the night.
