Not in Varanasi?
2 h 39 min, starting at sunset.
Nirnaya Sindhu quotes Vyasa: “trimuhūrtaḥ pradoṣaḥ syād bhānāv astaṃ gate sati”, that is, Pradosh is the three muhurtas after the sun has set. Three of the night's fifteen muhurtas are its first fifth, worked out from this city's own sunset.
Why Pradosh begins at 5:08 PM in Varanasi
Sunset, and with it Pradosh, comes 17 minutes earlier in Varanasi than in New Delhi (5:25 PM). Varanasi lies 5.8° east of New Delhi. The Earth turns through that in about 23 minutes, so on longitude alone the sun sets 23 minutes earlier here. Varanasi's latitude takes back 6 minutes of that: it changes the length of the day and of the night.
